Biking for Fun and Fitness
Cycling or biking is a fun and fantastic way to get fit. Cycling is a low-impact, calorie-burning exercise that’s enjoyable for people of all ages. Children can do it as can senior citizens. It’s also a great way to spend quality time with those you love. Bijing reduces stress, builds muscle tone (pedaling is a great resistance-based activity that will tone your calves and thighs) and increases your overall strength.
Cycling uses the whole body and builds your stamina. Many people don’t realize just how far they’ve gone while riding on the bicycle. The activity also improves overall cardiovascular fitness because the heart pumps to keep in time with all the movement. The action is steady and continuous. Bking revs up the metabolism, burning up calories, reducing fat and creating lean muscle in its place.
If you’re new to the cyling, you should consult your doctor before you begin a biking regimen. Bicycling is considered a base training activity which means that it is both aerobic and anaerobic. It requires endurance and builds muscle but will also keep the heart rate high enough to make you break a sweat. Start slow by cycling a few times a week for about fifteen minutes at a time. You can gradually increase your speed, time and distance as you go.
For those who don’t want to bike outside, stationary bikes are making a comeback. First popularized decades ago, the stationary bike is very easy on the joints and a great way to beat the heat (or inclement weather.) You don’t have to go very far to ride it and you can ride your bike while watching television…so it’s awfully convenient.
You don’t need to become the next Lance Armstrong to see that cylcing is a great activity both indoors and out that will keep you entertained while keeping you fit.
